W.W. Manning established this town with his saw mill in 1863. By 1923, the town was reaching its high water mark with around 1,000 residents. On January 1, 1923, Lee M. Threet launched the Lyric Theatre with the film, “The Trap.” But the saw mill burned down in 1934 and with the Depression on, the entire town would disappear. By the end of World War II, the town was down to just thirty residents and by 1947, Manning, Texas no longer existed. There is no trace of the Lyric Theatre.
