Australia Cinema 272 Collins Street, Melbourne, VIC - 1940's

The Australia One Theatre was opened in 1965 and had 500 seats. it was located in the basement of the Australia Hotel. It was later twinned and re-named Australia Twin Theatre. It was operated by Village Drive-In Theatres and closed on 1st May 1988.

This cinema was just a renaming of the basement cinema below the 1939 Hotel Australia, which was built with two small cinemas, this one called the Australia Theatre, and a 300 seat newsreel cinema called the Tattler Newsreel. So always a twin !

I see now the Tattler is listed as the Australia Two with correct dates.
