In the Aberdeenshire town of Ellon, midway between Aberdeen and Peterhead, the County Cinema opened in January 1957, with the musical “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” starring Howard Keel and Jane Powell.
It was a conversion/enlargement of an existing building, originally Ellon United Presbyterian Church.
Sadly, the County Cinema did not last long, closing on Hogmanay (31st December) 1966 with Walt Disney’s “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”.
The building became a furniture store, before being demolished. Housing has since been built on the site.
