J.P (James) Pittman opened the $25,000, 500-seat Cameo Theatre on June 21, 1924. The highlights were a Giant Monsoon cooling system and a $10,000 Fotoplayer pipe organ from the J.D. Wheelan Co.
On August 2, 1925, The Port Arthur News reported that Mr. Pittman was selling his Cameo Theatre and Liberty Theatre to the Jefferson Amusement Co. The Jefferson Amusement Co. had in July purchased the Strand Theatre, Peoples Theatre, Pearce Theatre, Green Tree Theatre and Victor Theatre from J.A. Holton, thus giving them control of all seven Port Arthur theatres. Jefferson Amusement was listed as a subsidiary of Saenger Theatres.
The Cameo Theatre closed March 1, 1926, and the staff transferred to the People’s Theatre, to prepare for the reopening of the remodeled Strand Theatre.
In September 1926 Acorn Stores opened in the remodeled building.
