Avon Theatre

The Peoples' Theatre opened on April 29, 1909. In 1913 the house was briefly closed by new owners and renovated, reopening on August 19 as the Princess Theatre.

In 1915 the theatre was closed again and the building expanded and extensively remodeled, reopening on September 15. Talking pictures came to the Princess Theatre on May 6, 1930.

The now venerable house was renovated again in 1937, reopening that July with the new name Avon Theatre. The Avon Theatre was still open in the early-1950’s.

Still listed in 1956 with 225 seats. The address would have been something like 117 E Broadway. This entire block was demolished years ago for a cheap drive-through bank.

I found some old photos I took in Keota, and at the beginning of 2010 this part of the block was all churned up dirt, indicating that the buildings were recently demolished. I may even have a shot of the rear wall of the theater, but it’s impossible to tell where exactly I was.
