The Embankment Garden Cinema was opened exclusively to commemorate the 60th British Film Institute’s BFI London Film Festival and screen its films, opening on 6th October 2016 with “After the Storm” and closing on the 16th October 2016 with a parallel screening of “Free Fire”. The cinema is situated just near the Victoria Embankment Garden gate, a minute-long walk from the London Charing Cross railway station. Outside of it resides a permanent red carpet with a photo-shoot area, sheltered in case of rain, and a box office beside it. The cinema itself supports Dolby 7.1 surround sound and 4K projection, with 808 seats in total. When the film festival ended, the cinema was disassembled.
It was erected again for the 2017, 2018 & 2019 London Film Festival’s.

This cinema is being refurbished for the 61st edition of the festival, which will last from 4-15th October.
The cinema has now been disassembled again, and will most likely reopen for next year’s festival.
I’m impressed if they actually installed a Scope screen as in the picture rather than show Scope films “letterboxed” on a 1.85 screen.
Opening film for 2018 ‘Widows’ 10 October, closing film ‘Stan & Ollie’ 21 October, 24 films due to be screened here during the London Film Festival. Venue is wheelchair accessible and includes a licenced bar.
Was not renovated in 2020 due to pandemic restrictions surrounding the festival.
Has not been redeveloped since 2019 due to pandemic restrictions and the festival relocating their flagship venue to the Royal Festival Hall.
