The Civic Theatre was opened on 16th September 1940. It had 1,100-seats. It was taken over by BCC(Birch Carroll and Coyle) in 1968. It was twinned in 1994. Later three more screens were added and it was re-named BCC Cinemas Mackay City. Cinemas Mackay City unknown? Number of seats unknown?

Opened on 16/9//1940 as Civic(Mackay Theatres(1940 to 1967)). The Civic was the first Queensland country theatre to have air conditioning. Taken over by Birch Carroll & Coyle in 1968. Twinned in 1994. 3 more screens added next door by extended onto the vacant land on the left hand side(date unknown?), and name changed to BBC Cinemas Mackay City.
1100 seats(1940 to 1967), 1000 seats(1968 to 1973). Number of seats now unknown?
