Opened on 16/9//1940 as Civic(Mackay Theatres(1940 to 1967)). The Civic was the first Queensland country theatre to have air conditioning. Taken over by Birch Carroll & Coyle in 1968. Twinned in 1994. 3 more screens added next door by extended onto the vacant land on the left hand side(date unknown?), and name changed to BBC Cinemas Mackay City.
