O.K. Theatres opened the Palace Theatre March 1, 1935, in the new Patterson Building, which is still there today. The entrance was on W. 2nd Street, aligned with five shops with the rear of the auditorium along Cypress Street. In 1937 the Patterson building served as temporary offices for the county courthouse, which was being razed.
After being closed for almost a year, it opened again March 19, 1937 as the new Palace Theatre. As advertised in the Pecos Enterprise, there were entirely new cushioned seats and new sound. Film Daily Year Book 1937 lists the Palace Theatre with 450 seats.
On January 2nd and 3rd, 1939, the Palace Theatre presented “Slaves in Bondage". According to a news story in the Enterprise, the film was inspired by the “recent Dewey investigations in New York City, which struck a deadly blow at the white slave trade". Advertised for adults only, the xtra attraction, billed as ‘Nite Life Whoopee’, pictured a shocking photo of a girl holding a sombrero, covering her body.
The Palace Thetare closed and reopened at least one more time before dropping out of the local listings in April 1939, soon after the new Cactus Theatre opened.
