The Sundown Drive-In was opened on May 19, 1950 with Randolph Scott in “Coroner Creek” and the feature length Walt Disney animation movie “Dumbo”. It was operated by Ned Steele Jr. It was closed in 1969 with Fred Astaire in “Finian’s Rainbow”.

Motion Picture Herald, Jan. 12, 1952: “The Ned C. Steele father-and-son partnership will be dissolved with the 314-seat Colusa at Williams being taken over by Ned, Sr., and the Sun-Down drive-in, there, going to Jr.”

The Sundown held its grand opening on May 19, 1950 with a capacity crowd, based on stories in the Colusa Sun-Herald. Its first program was the Randolph Scott film “Coroner Creek” followed by Disney’s “Dumbo”.
