Baird Theater

The Baird Theater was located in the South Austin neighborhood, on W. Madison Street near Lockwood Avenue. There is very little information on this theater’s time in operation. It is listed in the Chicago Tribune’s movie listings from January-June of 1914, but is listed in 1915 in Moving Picture World as open, and again in 1917 in Motography, where a short article says the theater is “now open”, so it may have closed for a time between 1915 and 1916. By 1932 through the late-1950’s it housed a funeral home. During the 1980’s into the mid-2000’s, the building was home to a church. It is currently vacant in 2017.
