Located in the New City neighborhood on S. Ashland Avenue near W. 54th Street, this small theater was opened as the New Ashland Theater in 1912 for J. Kohlmann at a cost of $6000 in an existing building which dates to 1903. By 1914 it had been renamed Alpha Theater. The Chicago Tribune’s film listings for this theater stop in 1925, and the Film Daily Yearbook shows the Alpha Theater as open in the 1926 edition. The former theater later served for many years as a pet shop.
