The New Larksville Theatre was opened August 15, 1940 with “Waterloo Bridge”. It replaced an earlier Larksville Theatre (1937-1940) on Wilson Street.
In early-1943 cracks began to appear on the building and it was closed for safety reason. The last movie screened was “Busses Roar”. On the night of February 17, 1943, the empty theatre sank almost 5ft into a sink hole, which also swallowed two commercial properties and a residential.
I was replaced in December 1945 by a ‘new’ New Larksville Theatre at 87 E. Luczerne Avenue.
