Alamo Drafthouse opened their sixth Austin location March 9, 2017, following staff training days from March 5 to 8 with discounted admissions and food.
The Mueller location, with six screens and 609 seats, ranging from 45 to 140, was designed by Richard Weiss, whose firm is credited with five other Alamo Drafthouses. Mr. Weiss and Tim League’s controversial restrooms design was reported widely by the press months before the opening.
Alamo Drafthouse notes “Our auditoriums are equipped with the highest quality Sony 4k digital projection, equipped for both high-frame-rate and RealD 3D presentations. State-of-the-art bi-amplified QSC digital audio systems provide full range multi-channel fidelity for faithful reproduction of audio soundtracks.”
Their extensive menu is prepared from scratch.

This is one of the nicest Drafthouse locations I’ve been to, even though the staff is very new and still getting the hang of things. The screens are huge, the parking is convenient and free, the seats are the padded, reclining type (much like Cinemark’s Luxury Loungers) and the menu has got some exclusive items not served at any other Drafthouse.
The only thing I don’t like that much is the unisex bathroom layout. It’s efficient in theory but troublesome in practice, with a lot of people awkwardly waiting outside unsure of whether or not it’s okay to go in. This congestion can make it hard to get in and out of the elevator across the hall. The bathrooms themselves are extremely nice and remarkably private once you get into them, though.
