One of the most unusual names for a theatre was the Tutrovansum Theatre in downtown Tutwiler, Mississippi. The moniker was an amalgamation of close proximity communities of Tutwiler, Rome, Vance, and Sumner. And while that should make the theatre the Tutromvansum, it just wasn’t.
A silent-era theatre that survived a 1926 fire, the Tutrovansum Theatre was a survivor into the 1960’s. It also became an African American-only cinema for less than two years in 1960-1961.
