In Ely, Cambridgeshire, on a 6.5 acre site on the A10 at Downham Road, Turnstone Estates was selected by East Cambridgeshire District Council to develop a facility which would address the lack of leisure provision north of Cambridge.
The Council approved the planning application for this £15.7m development on 1st April 2015. Contractors RG Carter Projects began construction in April 2016 on Phase One, a ‘Leisure Village’.
The centrepiece is the Cineworld multiplex, which opened on Friday 12th May 2017. This is supported by restaurants such as McDonalds, Costa Coffee, Frankie & Benny’s, Hungry Horse and KFC.
Phase Two of the development includes a new swimming pool.

On its convenient, out of town location, this is a worthy addition to the Cineworld circuit. I visited on Sunday 23rd July 2017 and enjoyed Christopher Nolan’s epic “Dunkirk” in Screen 1, the largest, which has a ‘box’ at the rear with two seats and wheelchair space. Seating capacities are: Screen 1: 240; Screen 2: 118; Screen 3: 155; Screen 4: 129; Screen 5: 75 and Screen 6: 220.
