The Car-Vu Drive-In was opened in 1949 and was operated by the Phipps & Layton families. The projection booth was equipped with Motiongraph projectors. Originally the sound came from a large speaker at the base of the screen. Sometime in the early-1950’s, individual car speakers were installed. The drive-in had 42 seats in an enclosed area for walk-in patrons. There was no decoration on the rear of the screen tower. In the early days there was a childrens playgound.
The Car-Vu Drive-In was closed in the 1970’s. The structures remained for several years before they were eventually torn down.

Today, there is nothing left of the drive-in save for a faint outline.

You have to be real careful about photo captions. After looking at topo maps and aerial photos, I see no evidence of another drive-in either in or near Carey apart from the Car-Vu which is a couple of miles to the southeast.
Unless there is more evidence, I’d say the photo captions are off.
they are way-off it’s the abandoned cheif drive-in in quanah texas!
Yup, 36 miles off. The pictures of the Chief Drive-In must be several years old at least because the screen today is in terrible shape.
