State Theatre

Located in the northwest Brisbane district of Red Hill. The Red Hill Picture Pops Theatre was opened around 1920. The word ‘Pops’ stood for “Peoples Own Pictures”. Alterations were carried out in 1927 to the plans of architect Raupert T. Erskine It was later renamed State Theatre and closed as a cinema in 1964.

It was converted into a live music venue Teen City, where bands such as the BeeGees performed. This was a short lived venture, and in 1965 it was converted into the Red Hill Skate Arena and became one of the most popular roller skating rinks in Brisbane. It was closed in 2004 when the building was damaged in an arson attack. The remains still stand derelict in 2017 and the building had been placed on the Heritage Register of Brisbane City Council in March 2016.

Are there any plans to fix up this building? Have they found out dud the arson attack?
