Located in the northeast of the city centre. The New Cinema was opened in 1910. It was a basic building which in the auditorium there was no ceiling, allowing the iron roof trusses to be exposed. The auditorium ran parallel to the street.
In 1914 it was re-named Stobswell Cinema-Theatre. In 1931 alterations were carried out and it was once again re-named New Cinema. In May 1945 it was badly damaged by a fire, and after repairs were carried out, it reopened in 1948.
It was taken over by the J.B. Milne Theatres chain in 1959 and it was re-named Ritz Cinema. In 1961 there was a fire in the projection room and the building was damaged by another fire in September 1970. The Ritz Cinema was closed in 1973 and was demolished in 1978. Housing was built on the site.
