The Ideal Theatre was in operation during the silent era, and continued into the early sound era. It was situated in a three-story frame building on Romney’s W. Main Street. In the 1930’s, it was taken over by Charles Anderson and Walter B. Urling’s rapidly expanding Alpine Theatre Circuit.
Around 1940 the Alpine Theatre on E. Main Street was opened and the Ideal Theatre closed. The Alpine Circuit kept up its lease on the Ideal Theatre, though, to prevent any competitor from getting a foothold in Romney. Eventually the building was converted to retail use, and later was demolished.
