The building was constructed aproximately in 1910 for use by IOOF. Originally, the building included three storefronts on the first floor, a gym at the rear of the first floor and a second floor club room for the Moose Lodge. By 1913, ground floor tenant spaces were removed and the building was converted to a movie theater known as the Isis Theatre. The building continued to operate as a movie theatre through at least 1949 with different names: Isis Theatre, Sherry’s Theatre, Colonial Theatre and finally State Theatre.

Franklin and Howard Hughes purchased the theater in March 1931.
