The Knickerbocker Theatre was one of the Komm Theaters circuit. It was a very busy theatre in its day. It was located just east of Grand Avenue at Compton, thus later getting its Compton name. It was located on Park Avenue so the name change went with the street. Komm Theaters ran clean and efficient theatres and catered to their neighborhoods. It was closed in 1949.
The theatre was bought by the University with plans to demolish it and expand the medical part of the university but it never reached as far as Compton. The theatre later became a Paint Supply house.

Theatre operated from 1910 to 1949.
Original name was KNICKERBOCKER; became the PARK IN 1930; and, finally, the COMPTON in 1934.
Built by the Freund Brothers.
Architect was William Wedemeyer.
A Compton Nickelodeon was listed at 3204 Easton Avenue in Gould’s 1909 St. Louis city directory. In the 1914-1915 AMPD it was listed as The Compton, Compton and Easton Aves. The AMPD listed the Knickerbocker Theatre, Park and Compton Aves. the original Compton must have closed by 1934 when the Knickerbocker/Park was renamed Compton.
