Vint's Hippodrome

Located in Neath, West Glamorgan. Leon Vint built his New Hippodrome by 1913. Initially it presented music hall acts and plays. Films were also screened as part of the music hall bills. From 1914 it was mainly screening films and the ‘New’ had been dropped from the name.

The building was destroyed by a fire in April 1918, which happened just before 11pm, after patrons and staff had left the hall. The fire is thought to have started in the projection box.

In 1924 it was stated that Vint’s New Hippodrome was under construction, same in 1925 and by 1927 it was announced ‘rebuilding shortly’. In 1927 Leon Vint was declared bankrupt and his replacement Hippodrome never got built.

In 1935 the Windsor Cinema was built on the site.
