Name changed to Majestic Cinemas in(1980’s?). The neon Ritz sign is still there on the outside of the building(possibly heritage listed?).

Evangelos Hatsatouris [1870-1948] was born in Greece and worked a sea captain before immigrating to Australia in the early 1910s. The Hatsatouris family conducted the White Rose cafe, later known as the Monterey, and established the Empire Theatre and then the Ritz Theatre and other theatres across NSW. His sons Peter and George were involved in the theatre businesses.

Unfortunately this fantastic Art Deco cinema ‘The Ritz’ has been totally wrecked and hardly recognisable from it’s original self. . I found some interesting Interior pics via the Port Macquarie Historical society archives. . Check out pages 9,10,11 in the PDF from this link >>> https://files.ehive.com/accounts/3977/objects/files/298a2879bbbd45d38989efb50a7e58b2.pdf
