Located in Barnoldswick, Lancashire. The Public Hall & Skating Rink was converted into the Palace Theatre by February 1910. Located in St. James' Square (today re-named St James' Road) it had become the St James' Square Cinema by 1914. It originally had 800 seats. In 1925 it was re-named People’s Palace. Around 1930 it was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system. It had a 20ft wide proscenium, the stage was 20ft deep and there were six dressing rooms. It present occasional variety as well as film programmes. By 1937 it was operated by Matthew Hartley & Son.
By 1948 it had been re-named Palace Cinema, still operated by M. Hartley. It was still open in 1954, but had closed by 1958. It went over to retail use and has since been demolished.

In The Stage of 24 February 1910, the Palace Theatre Barnoldswick was advertising for ‘good dramatic companies . . playing three or four dramas a week’. The manager was a ‘Geo Holloway’. On the 25-inch 1909 OS map St James' Square is what is now called St James' Road.
The 1944 KYB has this cinema listed as the People’s Palace with 668 seats, the same stage and sound details as per main text on this page.
