I saw ANACONDA in Screen 6.
It was a 1.85 ‘Flat’ screen necessitating Scope movies being letterboxed top and bottom; in effect just like a large TV screen. The auditorium and the screen were both large so a proper Scope screen could have been fitted. This would have reduced the screen size for a ‘Flat’ film but it would still have been an impressive size.
Speaking to the manager afterwards he said that just Screens 1 and 3 were Scope with the remaining 6 screens all Flat. I briefly saw inside one of the two Scope screens which was showing AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH. I could see that the full height of the screen was being used but was not able to judge the width properly with that quick look.
In all, a very pleasant cinema to watch films in; big screens, very dark during the film itself but ‘why oh why’ do Cineworld continue to build new cinemas without proper Scope screens. I want the big screen experience, not just a glorified TV screen. Of all the UK cinema chains, Cineworld seem more addicted to Flat screens than the others.
I hope that is not the case at the brand new Cineworld, Watford 9-screen cinema due to open on 14th December 2018, albeit I’m mainly interested in the ‘new IMAX with Laser’ screen.
