The Palace Theatre opened on December 15, 1923 with “The Drivin' Fool” with a Schaeffer Symphonola providing the silent film’s accompaniment. It competed with the existing Phoenix Theatre. When the Arcadia wired for sound in 1929, the State was designated as the “silent program” theater. It closed November 29, 1929 with Greta Garbo in “The Single Standard.” It did not reopen.
Very well preserved for something closed so long. It’s now a bar, seemed popular with an older crowd.
