The Central Picture House was opened on 29th July 1921. In 1929 it was equipped with a RCA sound system. In the mid-1950’s it was re-named Central Cinema. It was purchased by the Council in 1961 for redevelopment and was closed in January 1964 to be demolished later that year for a new development of shops.
