Located in the main city centre square. The Salon Cataluna was opened on 22nd June 1912. It had 1,115 seats, located in orchestra level and in long side slips at balcony level which went along to side-walls to the proscenium. It was considered the most important cinema in the city at that time. On 12th September 1930 it was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system.
It was taken over by Cinesa and was closed for remodeling, reopening as the Cine Cataluna on 8th May 1974 with Ingmar Bergman’s “Cries and Whispers”. The seating capacity had been reduced to 427 on a single floor and all original decoration had been removed.
The Cine Cataluna was closed on 1st November 1993 with Sam Neil in “Jurasic Park”. It was demolished and the shopping centre El Triangle Centre Commercial now stands on the site.
