The 645-seat King’s Electric Theatre was opened on 13th February 1911, operated by the United Electric Theatres Ltd. circuit. Around 1930 it was equipped with a Duosonic sound system. It was taken over by the J.F. Emery Circuit in 1932 and they operated it until 1934. By 1937 it had been equipped with a British Acoustic(BA) sound system and the cinema had been re-named King’s Picture Hall. It had been extended and renovated to the plans of architectural firm Drury & Gomersall.
In later years it had been re-named King’s Cinema, screening mainly horror and sex films. It was closed in 1966.
In June 1968 vandals broke into the empty building and slashed the screen, causing £200 of damage. In September 1968 the building was set on fire in the early-hours of the morning, and with the roof and one wall collapsing, it was demolished.
