Church Point’s second location of its Bijou Theatre launched June 28, 1919 with the film, “Eye to Eye”. Improved projection and comfortable seating were among the improvements. Manager C.A. Fontenot added sound in March of 1930 with the RCA Photophone standard to keep the theatre updated. Unfortunately, the theatre went out of business for a period in 1932.
In 1937, the Joy Houck Circuit added the theatre to its growing portfolio renaming it the Joy Theatre. The theatre became independently operated.
In the 1960’s, after being a two day a week operation, new owners bought the theatre operated four days a week. They would rename the venue the City Theatre. A projection booth fire spread during a show on April 25, 1971 that ended the theatre’s operation. Fortunately, nobody was hurt in the fire.
