On April 26, 1957, The 77 Drive-In Was Once Devastated And Partially Enough Destroyed During Record-Breaking Rainfall Caused By Heavy Rain And Wind Gusts.
It appears to have closed after the March 27, 1983 with “Time Rider.” It was then listed as for sale in the local paper’s classifieds.
Motion Picture Exhibitor, May 2 1962: “Fred Smith, Belton, Tex., has taken over operation of the Preston Royal and the 77 Drive-In, Cameron, where the Milam was destroyed by fire last year.”
The 1952-54 editions of the Theatre Catalog listed the 77 as owned by Woodrow Good and George Clements. The 1955-56 edition had the owner as W. A. Smith. Billboard magazine filled in the connection on June 5, 1954: “Mr. and Mrs. Wilford A. Smith have purchased Cameron (Tex.) Drive-In. The Smiths come from Temple where they operated a theater for 10 years.”
“Bill Peck, a 11-year veteran with Cameron Theatres, has reopened that circuit’s 77 Drive-In at Cameron, presenting a free show consisting of two features as the first program.” — Boxoffice, July 4, 1960
Closed in 1985. Demolished(date unknown?). Site is now a nursing home(Cameron Nursing Center).
