The Liberty Theater opened in 1921 and, as reported in the Nevada State Journal, was taken over by T&D Junior Enterprises August 29, 1924, as their 46th house. At the time M. Naify said he had purchased the entire Paramount lineup for the coming season for Reno, which would be routed to Susanville. A remodeling was also in the works.
In August 1934 the Journal noted the city council said the Liberty Theater was in danger of collapsing and must be condemned. State building inspectors also agreed to this conclusion. The theater closed August 9 and demolition began to prepare for a new theatre, due to open in 1935.
According to old Sanborn Maps the Liberty Theater was constructed of hollow tile blocks and the Sierra theatre had reinforced concrete walls and was wider with a larger stage and curved balcony.
