The Bakersfield Californian reported September 10, 1915, Frank Panero was installing a projector in his theatre, located in the Masonic Hall. Panero’s and Delano’s first theatre opened September 18, 1915 with “The Spoilers”, starring William Farnum.
The old 200-seat Delano Theatre closed before the new Delano Theatre opened in April 1926 and the building, sporting the Masonic crest, can still be seen in Delano.
Upon Mr. Panero’s passing in February 1968 the Californian noted he came from Ogden, Utah at the age of two in 1886. He and his wife Louise eventually operated 14 theatres, which included two drive-ins. The other theatres were in Kingsburg, McFarland, Reedley, Sanger, Selma, Shafter, and Wasco. In 1961 he retired and turned operation over to his son August.
