Trail Drive-In

The Old Trail Drive-In was opened on September 29, 1950 with Sylvia Sidney in “Trail of the Lonesome Pine” when it was operated by Rex E. Voeller. It was destroyed by fire on August 20, 1951. It was rebuilt and reopened in April 1952. By 1953 it was operated by Stanley Voeller.

It was planned to close at the end of the 1976 season, but the concession building was destroyed by fire on August 18, 1976. A temporary building was constructed and the Trail Drive-In continued to operate until it finally closed on October 31, 1976 with Roy Scheider in “Jaws”. All that remains are a few of the ramps and the screen foundation!

Boxoffice, June 3, 1963: “BAKER, ORE. – Shortly before the Old Trail Drive-In was opened for the season it was purchased by Harold C. Fuller of Salt Lake City. Fuller plans to remodel the drive-in on West Highway 30 without interfering with the daily program schedule.”

Appears to have opened on September 29, 1950 with “Trail of the Lonesome Pine.” Its second season was cut short when it was destroyed by fire on August 20, 1951. It was reopened the following April. In its final season, the concession building was destroyed by fire on August 18, 1976 but they completed the year with a temporary building closing October 31, 1976 with “Jaws.”
