The origins of Hershey Park Theatre date back to 1904 even prior to the opening of Hershey Park. Created as an outdoor amphitheater mainly for live exhibitions and shows, the facility also allowed for roller skating and dances.
At the end of the 1911 season, the amphitheater was enclosed becoming the Hershey Park Theatre. It relaunched in 1912 with live shows but would later add films to the programming mix. By 1926, the theatre had moved to showing films exclusively. The theatre was known simply as the Park Theatre at the end of its existence. The venue was likely not great for sound films and a new theatre was built replacing the original location.
