The Austin Theatre was named after manager William Luckett’s business Austin Amusement Company. Construction began in 1936 on the 40x150ft building. It opened in early-1937. By 1950 it was operated by Affiliated Theaters Inc. based in Indianapolis, IN. During its final years of operation it was open on weekends only. It was closed on April 11, 1954 with Rock Hudson in “Back to God’s Country”. It had closed by 1960 when it was converted into a warehouse.
