The $400,000 Sherwood Drive-In launched August 30, 1968 with a single screen and space for a second screen to the west. The first film was Dean Martin in “5 Card Stud” on its 50' by 116' screen. The theatre claimed to be the first in Canada built for year-round operation with in-car heaters and other features. 19 ramps accommodated the 1,046 car capacity Famous Players o-zoner.
On August 25, 1985, the Sherwood closed after Arnold Schwarzenegger in “Red Sonja” and Mickey Rourke in “Year of the Dragon.” The theatre was closed due to declining revenue and demolished.
