The people of Hamlin first saw motion pictures in B.S. Ferguson’s Opera House. Movies switched to the Ritz Theatre run by Mrs. Ferguson. On the site of the old Opera House, Ferguson built the New Ferguson Theatre which launched July 19, 1934 by Mrs. Ferguson.
A fire caused the theatre to close in 1937 for repairs relaunching, again, as the New Ferguson Theatre. The name was changed to the Ferguson Theatre not long thereafter.
A naming contest in 1960 with new operators led to the change to the Rogue Theatre on December 1, 1960. It appears as if regular screenings were discontinued on January 25, 1970. The theatre hosted some benefit screenings thereafter and a 1972 campaign to re-open the theatre seems to have failed.
