Ray L. Jennings and his wife, Ruth, launched the Park Theatre in 1942. The facility was given a wartime opening waiver because it served the troops stationed at the Hondo Airbase. Following World War II, patronage dropped significantly. The Jennings used the Park Theatre just once a week to screen Hispanic films.
The Park Theatre’s continuous operation ended at the end of 1957 after 15 years. Sporadic events and special screenings took place for many years. But in 1971, Jennings sold off the equipment and chairs. It then became a warehouse, auction house, and other mixed uses followed by a transformation in 1983 including the leveling of the floor for use as an office building.
