This attractive building was opened in 1857 as the Theatre Royal on the upper floors. The street level of the building was occupied by the London Coffee & Chop House. The Theatre Royal closed in 1878. It became the Odd Fellows Hall until 1886 when it re-opened as the Gaiety Theatre.
Later known as the Bijou Hall, it became a cinema in 1902, re-named Empire Theatre. In 1910 it was re-named Lyceum Theatre and operated as a cinema into the early-1920’s.
It was converted into an eight table billiard saloon which closed in the 1970’s. In 1985 it became a dance studio which still operates today. The ground floor is the Kameo Coffee Lounge.
