The second location of the Lyric Theatre was on West Side Square in downtown Cooper. The first Lyric Theatre opened in 1916 in the Blackwell Building and operator Henry Sparks moved to a larger location. This second Lyric Theatre was the first movie theatre in Cooper to have motor-driven machines. In a pre-opening stunt, Sparks put the projectors in auto-run in the windows of Carter Anderson’s Mercantile drawing the interest of town residents.
Sparks refurbished the venue and changed its name to the Delta Theatre which launched August 22, 1936. The first film was Barbara Stanwyck in “Red Salute.” The last films shown at this location was a double feature: Tex Ritter in “Roll Wagons, Roll” and Reed Hadley in “Zorro’s Fighting Legion” on August 10, 1940. The theatre was ostensibly replaced by the Sparks' Sparks Theatre which launched August 15, 1940.
The theatre then became home to the White Auto Store on June 20, 1941. Adair’s Grocery and to Hodges Insurance Agency. In 2010, it was completely remodeled
