The Ritz Theatre was a short-lived movie house in downtown Fairhope. It launched August 27, 1936 with Gary Cooper in “Mr. Deeds Goes to Town”. The People’s Theatres Co. operated the theatre for less than two years.
In February of 1938, People’s closed the Ritz Theatre taking over the 18-year old Fairhope Theatre. The Ritz Theatre became home to Guernsey Clarke and Sanford Clarke’s Clarke Brothers factory making rubber mats and floor runners.
