Levy Moore built the Avon Theatre in place of the Arcade Theatre which had burned down in 1934. The Arcade replaced a previous Arcade Theatre that had burned down in 1930. The new Avon Theatre launched October 30, 1934 with Joe E. Brown in “Bright Lights”, the Popeye cartoon, “Dizzy Divers”, and another feature.
The Avon Theatre closed in in May of 1956 but reopened quickly under new operator Phil Thomason who had a grand relaunch on August 10, 1956. The theatre closed for good in 1958. It was offered for sale at a “very reasonable price”. The venue had a few live events before Smith Brothers purchased it from Thomasson and converted it into an office building and warehouse.
