The Gala Theatre launched during World War II in downtown Butler, Alabama on December 23, 1944 by Garvis W. Allen. The theatre launched with Warner Bros. star-studded film “Thank Your Lucky Stars”. In 1954, the theatre converted to widescreen to accommodate CinemaScope presentations. The Gala Theatre was still open in 1965.

Also opened with the serial “Haunted Harbor”, an unnamed Mickey Mouse cartoon, and an unnamed Merrie Melodies cartoon. It was still open in 1965.
