Joy Houck’s Joy Theatre circuit launched a location in downtown Belzoni, Mississippi. A fire on January 11, 1943, which started in the projection booth during a crowded show, destroyed the theatre with all but two employees escaping injury-free. Houck would re-establish the Joy Theatre nameplate in the city.
