Moonlight Drive-In

The first note was in the July 30, 1949 issue of BoxOffice: “Clifford and Ralph Hough of Lebanon … are finishing construction of a 200-car drive-in on Route 32 five miles east of there”. However, it had opened on May 25, 1949.

The 1948-50 Theatre Catalog included the Moonlight Drive-In, owner Ralph Hough, capacity 200. In the 1952-56 Catalogs, the owner was Clifford Hough, the capacity rose to 250 and 100 seats.

The Moonlight Drive-In appeared in the first Motion Picture Almanac drive-in list in the 1950-51 edition, owned by Ralph Hough Jr., capacity 148. The 1955-59 MPAs showed the Moonlight Drive-In’s owner as Clifford Hough. The Lebanon fell off the MPA list in 1960.

A 1955 aerial photo showed the little drive-in at the northwest corner of 32 and Highway B. It was closed on November 4, 1956 with Audie Murphy in “Gunsmoke” & Ann Sheridan in “Take Me to Town”. The screen appeared to be gone in a 1959 aerial. Nothing remains of the Moonlight Drive-In today; a church occupies the site.

A closer address is 25915 Foxwood Ln, Lebanon, MO.

Google Maps has updated their addresses and this puts it right on the property. I understand that Foxwood Lane didn’t exist when the drive-in was open, but it appears that the entrance area has been renamed Foxwood Lane, so it is the same.

There is basically nothing left of the drive-in and most of the property is overgrown and has lots of debris.
