Situated near the town of Ross-on-Wye, in Herefordshire, the Labels Shopping outlet opened around 2013. It is home to over 200 shops and other amenities, and also a small, independent, ‘boutique’ cinema.
Aptly named The Gateway (as the outlet’s location is known as ‘The Gateway to Wales’) the cinema, on the upper ground floor, seats patrons on a variety of differently sized luxury sofas, set in four rows.
The cinema opened on 1st November 2018, with a VIP evening featuring rugby star Phil Vickery. It screens a wide range of films, from classics, to foreign, to cult movies and modern films. Patrons can also enjoy a pre-screening meal.
At the time of writing (July 2019), the Gateway is only open on Thursday and Friday evenings, and Saturday matinees and evenings.

I visited the Gateway on Thursday 20th April 2023 to see the National Theatre Live screening of C. P. Taylor’s play “Good”, starring David Tennant and Elliot Levey. While films are still not being presented every evening, they are rather more frequent than was mentioned in the Overview. Projection is from Blu-ray, with occasional live broadcasts. I was delighted to meet Kim, the very enthusiastic manager, and equally pleased to note a very good attendance. This is an extremely spacious, yet very comfortable, ‘boutique’ cinema, the brainchild of the lady who owns the Labels Shopping Centre.
