The 1908 Sanborn shows a theatre operating in the southern half of the brick addition to the Martin Hotel. Hotel rooms are on the second floor. The building appears on the 1894 map, when the theatre space was the sample room. The Royal Theatre had opened by 1914. Remarkably, both the old wooden hotel and this section have survived, and are used as the Historical Society Museum. The section that housed the theatre has a very unfortunate coating of dryvit all over the exterior, but appears to be otherwise in good shape.
