In the small town of Crossgar, just to the north of Downpatrick, County Down, the Market House was built in 1829. It housed a weekly market until the last decade of the 19th century then, in 1900, the upper floor was converted into a school. Later the building served as a church hall and (dates not known) as the town’s picture palace until the arrival of the purpose-built Festival Cinema (see separate Cinema Treasures entry).
Following a period of dereliction, the (listed) Market House was restored and, in 2012, it re-opened as Friends Day Nursery.
