Jason Smith and Kylie Szpiech opened the Bulldog Cinema in an old warehouse garage in March 2018.
On April 26, 2019, after a complete renovation and new equipment, the two screens and 130 seats were reopened.
The Bulldog Cinema offered budget ticket and concession prices and works with the community and schools for special events.
Big Rapids has a population of over 10,000 and it takes under an hour to drive to Grand Rapids.
The Bulldog Cinema was closed in 2020 and became a Spectrum store.

In addition to the regular population, Ferris State University has an enrollment of over 14,000 students plus faculty and staff. Certainly a good number to support 2 theatres in this city. Big Rapids is also a summer tourist destination which brings more folks into the area.
Brutus the Bulldog is the mascot for Ferris State, hence the theatre name.
